Visit to the Melton Police Station

KS3 students from Rise Up took part in an educational visit to the Melton Police Station yesterday.

Pupils spent time look around the force control room for Humberside police. The students were escorted around by our safer school officer Jon Hewitt, who explained to them in detail what happens when their staff take 999 and 101 calls. The students walked around each part of the control room observing CCTV footage from across the region. Pupils had discussions around the importance of using 999 and 101 appropriately.

Pupils were given the opportunity to speak with two specialist trained officers from the armed response unit. The aim of this was to speak about the dangers around weapon crimes. Pupils were even allowed to sit in the armed response vehicle and try on the police gear! Pupils asked lots of questions about the police armoury and how much money this equipment costs the police force.

Pupils also spent time with the police dog unit, where pupils had the opportunity to take part in hiding items for the dogs to find as part of their training. KS3 also watched the dogs complete taking down a suspect which they found particularly exciting!

Overall, it was an amazing opportunity for our young people and very rewarding.
